Police are warning London Road residents to be extra vigilant after a state of break-ins during the past week.

A dramatic increase in the number of burglaries and car crime has been reported within the London Road and Sharrow Vale region.

A Police spokesperson asked residents to keep alert and take "extra precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of such crime." They suspect that the burglaries have been committed by the offender sneaking into houses that have insecure/unlocked doors.

There are number safety procedures that residents can do to keep their property and valuables safe; exterior doors, garden gates, keys, security, vehicles and vigilance.

Landlords at Student accommodation The Forge have warned students to be careful, especially those who live on the bottom floor to keep windows and doors locked at all times. A student had a breaking at 3pm a few weeks ago when a group of gangs invaded his flat and violently attacked him.

Victim Alex, aged 22, said "The doorbell rung at 3am and a group of lads barged into my flat and started attacking me."

Sharrow Safer Neighbourhood Police Team has passed on this information to all residents around the area, to reduce the chance of becoming a victim.
